Despite the best efforts of everyone involved, we have unfortunately not been able to announce NVScene for 2019. Unfortunately - due to circumstances beyond our control - that'll likely remain to be the case.
But this is exactly why we'd like to talk to you.
So far, we have organized three increasingly successful editions of NVScene, all of which produced incredible demos but also provided us with benchmark talks that continue to be referenced both in and outside the demoscene community. We were leaving a mark, our attendance was steadily increasing, and the feedback we've been getting was more than convincing that we had a good thing going on.
We'd like to keep that good thing going. Unfortunately, the nature of NVScene so far is that we're a subsection of a much larger event, so our ability to make NVScene happen depends on many factors we have no influence over.
So we'd like to take a leap here. We'd like to go independent.
For most European demoparties, this would be a given, for NVScene this would be a huge leap. (And yes, we'll be using a different name, just to avoid confusion.) But it was going so well we don't see the point of waiting around. We can do this.
But we need your help. As you know, we've been mostly organizing NVScene from Europe, which works if a bunch of logistical things are taken care for you, but becomes a bottleneck once you attempt to build something from scratch.
We need people local to the Bay Area to help us. We need help with things like establishing connections to a location and gear, navigating the American laws, perhaps face-to-face meetings, the sort of things we can't establish via email or we have less experience with - and of course hands-on help at the actual party. In turn, we'll take care of everything we've been known to take care of as we've done it before.
We're not aiming for a mega-event on the first go: a hundred people would in our eyes be a huge success. What we want to do is establish a core - great quality entries and great quality talks wrapped in a friendly relaxed demoscene atmosphere. NVScene was able to pull both off, but we'd like to keep the package consistent, happening every year, no matter what the landscape is at the time - the Bay Area has immense technological and artistic potential, so having a consistent demoparty there would have great effects worldwide.
